A complete visual identity for a theology podcast designed to make thoughtful conversations about faith feel both academic and approachable. The challenge was to create an identity that felt academic enough to communicate depth, while remaining approachable enough to invite someone in.

The Concept
Academic Without Feeling Intimidating
Because the podcast host had a thoughtful, academic personality, I wanted the visual identity to reflect him rather than follow a loud or overly trendy podcast aesthetic.
I intentionally kept the visual language minimal and quiet, using restrained colors and typography to create something that felt intelligent without feeling exclusive or intimidating. The goal wasn't to make it look academic. It was to make it feel like him.
I translated that concept into the identity through a continuous thread that extends beyond the primary graphic. The element gives the identity a visual connection to the meaning behind the name while remaining subtle enough to keep the overall system clean.
Finding the Right Fit
“I'll Know It When I See It.”
The biggest challenge wasn't finding a visually interesting direction, it was finding one that felt like the host.
The host had a strong sense of what he wanted but found it difficult to articulate visually. Early concepts received feedback along the lines of “good, just not quite there yet.” We explored multiple directions before I developed the final approach that connected with him.
That process required a lot of trial and error, but ultimately led to an identity that he felt represented both himself and the direction of the podcast.
Building the Identity
One Brand, Many Formats
The identity developed organically as the podcast came to life. Since this was a new type of project for our team, each new need became an opportunity to extend the visual system.
I developed the branding across podcast artwork, episode graphics, social media, YouTube thumbnails, video graphics, website design, email graphics, and merchandise.
The goal was to make the identity flexible enough to work across very different formats while still feeling unmistakably connected.
The Result
A Brand That Feels Like Its Host
The final identity gave Theology Threads a visual presence that felt thoughtful, approachable, and true to the podcast host.
The podcast launched with the branding and continues to use the identity across its platforms.
For me, the most rewarding part of the project was creating something that did more than look good, it represented the person, purpose, and heart behind the concept.
